
Overview
Ali Bedni Bugyal
is a duo of twin alpine meadows—Ali and Bedni—located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Situated at an altitude of approximately 3,810 meters (12,500 ft), these meadows are considered some of the largest and most scenic in Asia.
- Difficulty: Moderate; suitable for beginners with good physical fitness.
- Duration: Typically 4 to 6 days.
- Distance: Approximately 27 to 31 km for the full circuit.
- Base Camp: The trek begins from the village of Lohajung
Highlights
- Mountain Views: The meadows provide a grand panorama of massive Himalayan peaks, most notably Mt. Trishul (7,120m) and Mt. Nanda Ghunti (6,309m), which feel exceptionally close.
- Bedni Kund: A sacred high-altitude lake located within Bedni Bugyal. In clear weather, it reflects the surrounding peaks and is a site of religious importance for locals.
- Spiritual Significance: These meadows are a major stop for the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, a grand pilgrimage that takes place once every 12 years.
- Flora & Fauna: Depending on the season, the landscape is filled with wildflowers like the Brahma Kamal (state flower of Uttarakhand), Blue Poppy, and Cobra Lily.
